Marie, a very pretty Alpine goat

Marie, brown with a black stripe down her spine, white flash on her muzzle and some white on her under parts, was badly neglected. Her hooves were so overgrown that she could no longer stand. She had to crawl on her knees. Rescued by the Farm for Animals Saved from Death, her hooves were pared and she was helped to stand, although her gait was still very stiff and painful.

She was also very fearful of human contact and was only confident if she had her new friend Jennifer, another Alpine goat, at her side. A foster home was found where Jennifer and Marie could remain together. In the company of three Ushant sheep, they are now happily discovering the delights of eating grass and delicious weeds!

Marie will already eat from her foster mother’s hand but is still fearful of being touched. Her big brown eyes are huge with fear at anything that startles her or if she inadvertently finds herself separated from Jennifer, but after only a couple of weeks in her new home, her legs are already loosening up, to the point that she enjoys running races with Jennifer and head butting Jack the ram if he gets too bolshie, so her future is bright.

As for Jennifer, she settled into her new home in a matter of hours and follows her foster mum around, with Marie in tow. When it comes to tidying the garden, no need of a dustbin! The sheep and goats are right there to help clear up! One person’s weeds are another person’s dessert! ;-)
